The much-anticipated 5th Edition of the Bulawayo Sports Fiesta is set to take place from 8 February to 8 March 2025. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better, introducing exciting new elements while celebrating traditional games and sports. One of the highlights of the 2025 Fiesta is the introduction of the UMAFILA an African street innovation similar to baseball played using feet, a game popular in the streets of Bulawayo. This unique sport, along with other traditional games like uMamtshayana, will be showcased during breaks of mainstream games such as soccer. These traditional games are being introduced as test models, adding a cultural touch to the event. The 5th Edition will also feature the Inaugural Bulawayo Royal Marathon, attracting runners from all over the region. The opening and closing ceremonies are expected to be spectacular, featuring various artists and performers who will entertain the crowds. In previous years, the Bulawayo Sports Fiesta has lived up to expectations, drawing hundreds of spectators throughout the month-long event. Notable winners over the years have included Zebra Revolution FC, Toronto FC, Ubuntu FC, Western Rangers, and Queen Lozikeyi Academy. Local teams like Streetset, Las Palmas, and the Crusaders have always provided intense competition, making the tournament thrilling and unpredictable. For the first time, the 2025 Fiesta will include categories like Basketball, Netball, and Volleyball, ensuring a diverse range of sports for participants and spectators to enjoy. The tournament is known for attracting participants from all over Matabeleland and beyond, and organizers are promising the participation of international teams this year.
