Rain halts Proteas after Boland’s double strike in Gqeberha
South Africa finished a rain-disrupted opening day on 20 for two in the second Test against Australia at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday.
Scott Boland struck with consecutive deliveries, bowling Aiden Markram for 11 before removing David Bedingham for a first-ball duck.
The dismissals left the Proteas on 12 for two, putting early pressure on their batting lineup after Australia won the toss and elected to field.
Only 12.2 overs were possible before persistent rain prevented further play.
Captain Temba Bavuma and debutant Marques Ackerman remained unbeaten, leaving South Africa with a rebuilding task when the match resumes.
Australia brought Boland into their side in place of spinner Nathan Lyon, favouring a pace attack in conditions offering assistance to seam bowling.
