Iran says proposal to reopen Strait of Hormuz remains available
18 October 2026
Iran says its proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz remains on the table, despite stalled negotiations with the United States.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Washington’s response was under review, Reuters reported on Sunday.
Tehran’s demands include lifting restrictions on Iranian ports and oil exports, alongside an end to regional hostilities.
A major disagreement concerns Washington’s insistence on addressing Iran’s nuclear programme early in negotiations.
Araqchi’s remarks describe a conditional proposal; they do not announce an agreement or confirm that the waterway has reopened.
